Blog Post 4: Logos, Pathos, Ethos

In my opinion I think that it is most important to obtain a balance of all three. You need to show your credibility of why someone should be listening to you through ethos. Keep them emotionally invested through pathos, because if they don’t care about what you are saying they are not going to continue reading your essay. Finally you have to have supporting text to back up what you have to say. So the logos part of it is important also. In my Into the Wild essay I tried to have a balance of all three and I think that I was able to achieve this. I tried to portray supporting text and emotionally connect the reader to my words. In my American Literature essay I also attempted to find that balance. I do think that I might have been lacking some ethos but I can work on getting a good balance through the revision process.

  1. I agree with what you said, and I believe that it is most effective to use all three. Some essays are swayed to one or another, but those only speak to some people. A combination of all three speak to a more broad audience and are more likely to be enjoyed by more people. I agree with what you said.

  2. I definitely agree with you in that all three of them are important. The essay seems complete once all of them are present. I also agree with the fact that it was a bit more difficult to incorporate some ethos in the American Literature essay. Let's just keep trying to improve our usage of all three in our essays and I'm sure we'll get the hang of it.

  4. Okay thanks, and you're welcome. I know I didn't quite understand it that much either, but I talked to Rachel and she helped me understand it more. I'm glad I could help in some way.
